Very small chip middle left edge, very
tiny/minute rim chips/roughness, surface near
perfect. Style:
Nature study An excellent bird study print, there are
three similar series of bird tiles from Minton
Hollins, each with different borders and each
done in numerous colourways. One set of ten and
two sets of six making perhaps twenty two for it
is reported that three tiles appear in two
series. All with an excellent variety of
aesthetic style borders, super designs of the
times. Made in a variety of colour combinations,
quite possibly a dozen or more, it would be
fascinating to collect a group in twelve
different colourways. This a cream clay with a
fine dark brown print and block printed
grey-green background. Often reported as designed by E W Godwin but
this is not the case, also suggested to be by
Robert Edis but again not the case. John
Bradburn is the most likely designer, as he
worked for Minton Hollins during the appropriate
period designing mostly aesthetic floral
patterns but also some including birds. Bradburn
apparently produced some pictoral designs for E.
Smith and later moved to Maw & Co where he
produced many designs including faience for
public buildings. Verso near perfectly clean, embossed usual
legend.
