Chips to the bottom edge on the name plate, a
little chipping/roughness to the left edge, surface
is near perfect, very clean and bright. Style: Landscape A view of Tissington Spires, Dovedale in The
Peak District National Park, Derbyshire. Mintons rarely coloured in prints on tiles or
pot stands (although perhaps the latter a little
more frequently) which is unfortunate as they
take to colouring particularly well. Many were
apparently designed to be coloured as they are
shown coloured in the pattern book and some
details like foliage which often comes across as
too intense is more suitably muted when
overpainted. Mintons made various series of landscapes,
this appears to be from a series of holiday
places, there are several Edinburgh scenes, some
from Warwickshire, the Derbyshire Peak District
and various other sites from around the country.
The majority of these designs are found on
teapot stands rather than tiles and they were
presumably sold as souvenirs. Other series often
appearing on teapot stands are the ruined abbey
and cathedral series although again they may not
be 'a series' as such as being made for the
market in souvenir shops.
