I had to buy this when I saw it, the only period tile I have ever seen with a dinosaur on it.

Painted in multicolour on a Longwy blank and signed on the face E Balon Blois. The artist is noted in France and here has brought some fine art technique to tile decorating. The black stain on the dinosaur and ground below had oil mixed in it which creates tiny circular clear spots in the dark stain to give texture and in this case the appearance of scales on the beast and pebbles on the ground.

Verso a bit grubby but no adhesive residue, Longwy embossed mark abraded off but still clear.

Condition: Very good

About ten chips around the edges and light roughness to the edge tips, some light surface rubbing and scuffing but only visible when viewed at a fairly acute angle to the light.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
