Very tiny chips top edge, very slight roughness
to the tip of the rim in a few places, lightly
filed side edges, surface very near perfect and
extremely brilliantly glazed. Style: Arts & Crafts profile An outstanding hand painted profile of an
eastern gent an a superb quality tile apparently
one of a series for a similar but different
profile within the same border is found in
Mintons art Studio pattern book. Lovely
colouring with two shades of blue and lemon,
finely painted and most brilliantly glazed.
Possibly designed by Henry Stacy Marks The tile was made a fraction oversize and the
edges have been slightly and most carefully
filed for the original installation in
furniture. Not immediately obvous and when held
in the hand or displayed of little import for
the glaze is most brilliant and it is a super
quality and attractive tile. Top and bottom edges are those trimmed in this
image, they have been chamfered undercut too as was
the manner of craftsmen. The amount of filing, just
about 2mm or one-twelth of an inch can be seen from
comparing the plain borders.
