Three very tiny rim chips,
minor surface marks - white spot a glaze blow
manufacturing flaw. C embossed verso Style: Arts & crafts floral A bold stylised stylised rose design painted
in ruby lustre in the manner of William de
Morgan and on a Wedgwood blank as often used by
de Morgan for lustres. This pattern is not
recorded as de Morgan or indeed by any other as
far as I am aware although his recorded pattern
numbers show gaps in the record and unrecorded
designs are known. Wedgwood used a variety of blanks supplied to
them by several companies, they only had a
specialist tile department from 1881-89. Those
marked with C, H, M and L apparently supplied by
George Marsden, Austwick shows one correctly
attributed to Wedgwood with embossed L on page
144. Verso clean, seven rail
Wedgwood style, with the embossed C.
