Tiny/shallow chips left edge, a couple of light
scrtaches on the painting (stage), other extremely
minor marks. Style: Figural theatrical An excellent and most surreal image on tile,
a rear view of an actor on stage resplendent in
camp cavalier costume. Most finely painted for a
tile, although Craven Dunnill were masters of
the art, the printed outline very subdued indeed
if it weren't for a printed pattern number I
would have taken it to be painted. One of a
series maybe? or just a pair? for sure one of
the most unusual 19th century tiles I have come
across. Verso near perfectly clean, embossed Craven
Dunnill etc, printed pattern number.
