A charming group of printed arts & crafts
tiles designed by Bratt Colbran of London and
made for them by Pilkingtons. Tin glazed and
printed the illustrations reminiscent of dutch
style and delft wares but of quintissential
english subjects.
Bratt Colbran have gained a reputation
amongst collectors of arts & crafts wares in
the most part for their repoussé copper
wares they were however mostly manufacturers of
heating appliances both efficient and stylish.
They patented several products and registered
designs for tiles and other wares and are
perhaps best known in the wider world for their
innovative gas fires. The company described
themselves thus: Designers and Manufacturers of
Wood and Iron Chimney Pieces, Interiors,
Kitcheners, Tiles, Antique Door Furniture,
Baths, Lavatories, Wrought Iron Work, Repousse
and General Metal Work.
