Tiny/minute rim chips, very clean and near
perfect surface consistent with being a showroom
sample tile. Style: Aesthetic movement A very rarely found design from Mintons at
least I can't recall seeing it before and I've
been looking out for it for a while. A thicker
'hearth quality' and buff clay bodied tile so
quite substantial and durable, nicely printed in
earth tones and with an excellent glossy
glaze. Quite a charming design encompassing many
sensibilities for it has both naivety and the
precision of a technical drawing. Possibly a showroom sample for written verso
in pencil is a number, 1932, which is likely the
pattern number which appears to be correct in
comparison with others of similar number and
date, also a price code. This tile appears in a video entitled 'Truth,
Beauty, Power" which is found on YouTube

(at eight minutes). Described as a "short
documentary about arguably the most radical
designer of the Nineteenth Century, Dr.
Christopher Dresser. He is explored in context
with his exact contemporary William Morris.
Written and presented by the Dresser scholar and
author Harry Lyons." Verso very clean, embossed Minton's etc.,
pattern number in pencil together with price
code.
