Minor surface marks. Style: Art
nouveau A most excellent art nouveau design with
super sinuous curves and perfectly straight
lines as required. A detailed and finely
modelled flowerhead at once stands out as
incongruous yet blends in to the whole, also
well indented so that as required the glaze
pools to a richer hue. Sometimes found in
multicolour, even as many as six colours
including red and blues, yet in many ways a
monochrome highly trasnlucent glaze is best.
With this a super 'old gold' translucent glaze
this tile is an example of the émaux
ombrants technique, very smooth almost flat
surface yet good contrast, the smooth surface
making for easy cleaning and less liable to wear
and damage. A really useful design, a repeating design
that works well all ways, in horizontal friezes,
vertical panels, areas of wall tiling and just
as well as a single or framed design. Simple,
light designs demand quality and this has it. It
was a good design to register, many registered
designs did not meet with great marketplace
approval and so were unlikely to be copied, this
is so useful that it was sensible to register
it. Versos slightly stained, embossed England and
registration number. Four minute rim chips, very minor surface
marks Shave top right corner, very minor surface
marks.
