Condition:
Excellent Style: Persian Excellent condition, one small corner chip (top
right tile) two tiny and a few minute rim chips,
some bloom to two tiles (bottom left side), all in
all excellent and the marks barely noticed. A rare group of Mintons' printed tiles the
design not previously seen by me although it
appears in the catalogue on sheet 39. An
excellent full persian style design in unusual
colours for the style predominantly tan and
yellow with minimal turquoise. The printing is excellent, state of the art
for 1890 and even today would present somewhat
of a challenge for underglaze ceramic printers.
Very ambitious with tiny turquoise dots for the
centre of the flowers yet they are placed with
near perfect precision. The tiles would be
impossible to produce by any other means,
painting would require the precision skills of a
fine art painter and each tile could take as
long as a day to complete. I doubt the pattern will ever be seen in more
typical persian colours with blues ranging from
cobalt to light turquoise and greens for they
tend to flow in to the glaze more than these
likely iron oxide based yellow and tan
colours. Versos very clean, unmarked, registration
number printed on edges. Click either group image for supersize
photo.
