Style: Gothic Condition: Excellent A very rare panel of the well known and
popular passion flower design by A W N Pugin.
This an original from Minton, Hollins & Co.
AKA Minton & Co. rather than the later copy
from Mintons. Rare because it has the terminal
tiles, I believe these were only made by the
original maker and not by Mintons. The colours
different to the usual green background having
chocolate brown and black printed, green foliage
and yellow are painted in enamels. The set of seven was a standard for
washstands in the gothic style though the 1870s,
some aesthetic movement style washstands were
also made to accomodate a single row of seven
six inch tiles. Tiles in such were often Pugin,
gothic, Minton but also a reasonable number of
studio tiles are found in such furniture. The panel could also be mounted vertically
for it is coherent as a pilaster as well as a
frieze. Versos very clean, the usual legend for the
company. A corner chip extreme left bottom is just
visible on the front, six tiny rim chips, other
very tiny/minute rim chips, occasional flakes
lost from the overglaze enamels typical of such
tiles. See large images below.
